I appreciate your honest review! Did you check for errata on her site? I have learned from knitting books to always check the publisher's website first rather than figure out they made a mistake afterward.

Hmmm... I made the Modern Diaper Bag from the book and it turned out beautifully. Stacy, from Stacy Sews, made the booties and she seemed happy with them. However, my experience with Amy's clothing patterns has not been as positive as with bag patterns--I don't think clothes are her strength, which could explain the problems you had with the jumper. She seems to over-design with clothing patterns, and, thus, there can be kinks to work out.

I'm hoping to make the blocks for a friend so I will put a review out there when I'm (hopefully) done. Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. Good luck with conceiving.

I made the kimono pajamas for my little girl on the way this weekend and they are beautiful! I used to sew a bit in college but just decided to get a new sewing machine for baby stuff and I can't wait to make more things from this book! I thought the pattern was pretty straight-forward and will use again. I also photo copied the patterns so I could cut them out in the different sizes.

hi - bought the book when I was pregnant, and am just now looking at making something from it - and I completely agree; my daughter is now 18 months old, and much too big for any of the clothing... too bad.

You have not lost your mind. I have been sewing for 40 years and the booties have been a nightmare! There should be more visual instructions. My daughter would like the more items made from this book, but I am hesitant. Is there anywhere I could go to get some help?

Huh? You have been to a great extent almost successful in weaving up the article on this subject. But I still ain’t satisfied because I feel there is somewhere a missing link which has not been covered yet.

I have made the everything bag, the empire waist top (with bloomers) and am almost finished the monkey laundry bag. I'm currently preggers and managing to follow instructions as long as I can stay up late enough to get the time! But great for making gifts for others. I found the everything bag worked out fantastically. A little difficult to finish at the end when there are so many layers of fabric to get through in the corners but otherwise fine. The clothing I completely changed the sizing of the elastic she puts in as I thought it was WAY too big. The laundry bag pattern seems pretty good and easy.

Buy My Book?

  • The book I co-wrote with my business partner Lauren Bacon is available at Amazon. How nutty is that? The Boss of You is a business book for women looking for advice to start or run a successful small business. The book features advice from some pretty smart gals including Jenny Hart (Sublime Stitching), Grace Boney (Design Sponge), Alex Beauchamp (Another Girl at Play), and many others.
