So how did it go?

Pretty well. We were in bed with windows reinstalled before midnight (with about 3 minutes to spare), which I consider a success. And as of this morning they still open and close with relative ease. Martin kind of split one of the frames on the upper window trying to open one a bit too forefully, but it's nothing structural and can be covered with paint. It's funny how the "bar" for success shifts the more and more you do things...

ah tearing out windows, i know it well as we pulled out repaired and reinstalled 11 of the windows on our house (5 to go wahoo!)

If you ever need to unstick painted-shut windows in the future, i'd like to suggest a great little tool called a window-zipper (also called a sash saw or window saw).

You can get them a good paint stores like kelly-moore.

Merideth, that's good to know! We tried using the exact-o and that reallyw wasn't doing the trick. In the end, I think we maybe needed to take them apart as there was really a lot of dirt/dust/gunk in there that would have made them tricky to use. Really, we need new windows but that is so totally not in the budget...
