So we've been wanting some bamboo to help deal with our over saturated backyard swamp issue. And in fact, as you may recall I even put out the word on this here blog just a few days ago that if anyone in the Vancouver area had some bamboo we could take a clump of that would be swell. Well, turns out the universe was listening.
The other night, after a particularly long day at work, I was less than thrilled when Martin suggested we needed to run an errand to drop off some stuff at a friend's place. I'd go so far as to say I was being a bit churlish about the whole thing actually. Well, that'll learn me. Turns out the all knowing universe had a plan. Tricky universe! For as we drove down the block, we saw this nicely sized clump of bamboo sticking out of a dumpster outside a building that was having work done on it. There it was, just waiting for us to take it home amongst the concerete blocks and broken slats of wood.
Some farce and slapstick ensued as we (mostly Martin) tried to haul what turned out to be an incredibly heavy rootball of bamboo out of the dumpster, but we managed to get it out of there, and with only a few further escapades got it into the back of the van. Hurrah!
And so, we now just need to dig a suitable hole and plant our very excellent and cheaper than cheap bamboo in the backyard and wait to see just how thirsty it can get....
